    Favicon HTML code

Paste this inside the <head> of every page and upload the files from the ZIP to your site's root folder.

Use an emoji as your website icon

Emoji are colorful, familiar and already designed to be read at small sizes, which makes them a great shortcut for a favicon. Choose one from the picker or paste any emoji, then add a background and shape if you want it to stand out in the tab bar.

Good to know about emoji favicons

Emoji artwork is drawn by your device, so Apple, Google and Microsoft versions look different. The ZIP contains images of the emoji exactly as you see them in the preview, so your favicon looks the same for every visitor. Check that the emoji is readable in both the light and dark tab previews.

    From emoji to live favicon

Download the ZIP, upload the files to your site's root folder and paste the generated link tags into your page head. The favicon HTML code guide shows exactly where each piece goes.

    Emoji favicon FAQ

How do you make a favicon?

Upload your logo to a favicon generator, crop it into a square, choose a background and download the generated files. With InstantFavicon you can also build a favicon from text or an emoji. Then upload the files to your site and add the link tags.

    What is a favicon image?

A favicon image is the picture file used as your site icon, usually a square PNG, ICO or SVG. Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels so it can be scaled down cleanly to 16×16 and 32×32.

What size should a favicon be?

Provide at least 32×32 (or 48×48) for browser tabs, a 180×180 Apple touch icon, and 192×192 and 512×512 icons for Android and installable web apps. For Google Search results use a square icon in multiples of 48 pixels. A 512×512 master image is the best starting point.

What is a favicon used for?

Favicons identify your site in browser tabs, bookmarks, history, home screen shortcuts and, on many devices, Google search results. A recognizable favicon builds trust, makes your site easier to find among open tabs and gives visitors a visual cue to come back.
