      Favicon HTML code

Paste this inside the <head> of every page and upload the files from the ZIP to your site's root folder.

Make a favicon that stays readable at 16 pixels

A good favicon maker does more than resize a picture. At 16×16 pixels you only have 256 dots to work with, so detail disappears fast. Use the zoom and move controls to crop in on the most recognizable part of your logo, such as a monogram or a single shape, and leave out thin lines and small text.

      Controls built for tiny icons

      • Crop and center: drag the preview or use the arrow keys to place the artwork exactly where you want it.
      • Backgrounds: keep transparency, or add white, black or any custom color so the icon is visible on every tab color.
      • Shapes: choose square, rounded or circle to match your brand.
      • Previews: check the browser tab in light and dark themes and every export size at once.

      Tips for a clear favicon

Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels. Use two or three strong colors with high contrast. Test the 16×16 preview first; if you cannot recognize it there, simplify the design. When you are happy, download the ZIP and follow the favicon HTML code guide to add the files to your site.

      Favicon maker FAQ

How do you make a favicon?

Upload your logo to a favicon generator, crop it into a square, choose a background and download the generated files. With InstantFavicon you can also build a favicon from text or an emoji. Then upload the files to your site and add the link tags.

How do you create a favicon?

Start with simple square artwork, resize it to 512×512 and export smaller versions at 16, 32, 48, 180 and 192 pixels. A favicon creator does this automatically and also produces favicon.ico and the HTML code. Check the result in the light and dark tab previews before you publish.

      What is a favicon image?

A favicon image is the picture file used as your site icon, usually a square PNG, ICO or SVG. Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels so it can be scaled down cleanly to 16×16 and 32×32.

What size should a favicon be?

Provide at least 32×32 (or 48×48) for browser tabs, a 180×180 Apple touch icon, and 192×192 and 512×512 icons for Android and installable web apps. For Google Search results use a square icon in multiples of 48 pixels. A 512×512 master image is the best starting point.
