Favicon sizes and dimensions
Updated October 13, 2026
There is no single favicon size. Browsers, phones and search engines each pick the file that suits them, so modern sites ship a small set. Start from a square image of at least 512×512 pixels and export the rest from it.

Favicon size for Google Search
Google asks for a square favicon whose size is a multiple of 48 pixels (48×48, 96×96, 144×144 and so on) and a stable, crawlable file URL. Check Google's current favicon guidelines before you publish, because requirements can change.
Favicon 16x16 and 32x32
A 16×16 favicon is the classic tab size. Many screens now show tabs at 2× density, so a 32×32 version keeps the icon sharp. Always provide both.
Tips
- Keep the artwork square and centered with a little padding.
- Avoid small text and thin lines; they disappear at 16 pixels.
- Use the favicon generator to export every size at once, including custom sizes.
